Beware the IGI reference as it is one submitted by a member not extracted from parish records. At a guess the submitter found the same census entry as you and worked out birth date and likely marriage date from that. There are a lot of Norfolk parishes missing from the IGI so its certainly worth searching at the records office for William's christening and marriage.

Thanks Anne, By the time of the 1881 census his wife was stated as a widow and living with one of their daughters. Their last daughter was born in 1865. I've looked for a death but not certain on any at the moment. I've found a William Points b 1824 in Tacolneston on the IGI - married to Mrs William Points (helpful!) I know they moved to Camberwell around the mid 1850's. I cheked their address from 1855 on the 1871 census but they'd moved so not found them yet. I'll have a look on the Norfolk records office website and see what they can do for me. Cheers Naomi

If you think it is the right man there are two courses you could take. 1. Try and find him on other censuses to see if the place of birth is the same. 2. Have a look anyway at the parish records for his stated place of birth. Are they on the IGI? At least you would find out if there was someone of that name born there at that time. However it doesn't prove he's your man unless the father's name on the marriage cert. matches that in the parish records - which would be a big help. Good luck Anne

Hi, I've been looking for my GG Grandfather for quite a while. From a very kind look-up given by people on the Records Office board we found his wife and 2 children with her father. No sign of him though. One of my friends bought the Norfolk 1851 census for herself and let me have a look. I've found someone who looks very likely to be him, William Points Married age 27, Farm labourer living in Tasburgh. He's on his own on the census. I think this could be him and it's a possibility his wife and children were visiting her father on the day of the census. The census says he was born in Tacolnston-Norfolk. I am waiting for his marriage cert (not due to be posted until 22nd April !) but this will only tell me where he lives and not born. Problem is I don't know how sure I can be of this census information and how to verify it. Sorry for rambling! Naomi
