1881 census problems

Yes, several of my lot were known as something different from their registered name. Maybe Thomas/Francis' Dad registered his favourite name but mum's choice was the one the child was known by, or perhaps little Thomas just looked more like a Francis when he started to grow up. |

I have found the right family on the 1881 census but my Thomas has turned into a Francis. He is the same age but I can't find any Francis in the birth registers. Is it possible the name was entered wrongly? Has anyone else found this sort of mistake before? Sue |
