Monique, I don't know where you are, so you may have difficulty in accessing some records. You may know this, but Irish records differ from those of England and Wales in a number of ways. The main differences are:- Government Records such as the Census and BMD Indexes are not held in England, they are held in Belfast and/or Dublin. BMD registrations did not start until 1864, except for non-catholic marriages, they started in 1845. Before about 1921, they cover the whole of Ireland, after that they only cover the respective sides of the border. Contacting the GRO in Belfast may work out expensive if you are short on details. They are on-line so you should be able to see a scale of charges. If you need any more info, do not hesitate to contact me direct. Paul

Hi. I'm having difficulty knowing where to start tracing my grandfather and his family. I know he was married and who married but no dates. I know that he was probably born in Belfast and lived and worked there until he died young at the age of about 34. I know one of his addresses but nothing else. He was born about 1913. I can't request a birth certificate as I don't have enough info. Tried all the sites I know of but nothing comes up. Where do I go for further information? Anyone give direction please? I'm a bit 'dead end' syndrome and disheartened can't go on to finding great grandparents which is my ultimate goal without information on my grandfather! Thanks for reading Any help, direction, offers for looking up info GREATLY received!
