Can I join you in going bonkers? I lost my g g g grandma Ellen COLDRICK, she was there in 1851 with all her little kids middle name CARTER and no husband. Found some likely CARTERS in a completely different part of the country on 1881 but this lady was a widow and absolutely no evidence of a marriage I have yet been able to find. Same family on 1891 and 1901 but no proof. My family though I was mad ( MOI?) having this hunch it was the same family. Anyway on the latest FreeBMD update I find she conveniently died after the census in June 1901 - named Eleanor Coldrick CARTER, Can't wait for the cert to arrive, maybe it'll tell me who she was widow of! all the kids birth certs have father's name struck out. Anyway Good luck all of you, maybe I'll take the pencils out of my nose now. Blipper blipper blipper Ann

Hi Linda, Have followed your brave lead and now ordered William Hemblings birth certificate......however if mine is wrong to I think our recycling plant are going to very busy with the amount of wine I shall feel forced to drink to drown my sorrows! haha And if it is wrong then where is my man!!! AN alien perhaps from the planet Mars (hum you can tell what chocolate i just ate haha) maybe he was born a fully grown man!!! I think perhaps I shall just have to keep on digging and hope he pops up somewhere! I shall now sit patiently and wait for the letterbox to clatter with the certificate! Good luck again!!! Vikki

Sorry Sarah I don't mean nutty as in mental but this pastime does make your eyes have a constant glazed look about them which can give you a zombie look - just like my husband when watching footie and his team has lost as 9 out of 10 times they usually do shhhhh! When I receive my birth cert you will probably hear me yell either with glee or frustration followed by the second empty bottle of wine being thrown in the dustbin or at next doors cat. If we all agree on our outlook that this hobby of ours makes you slightly batty - this must be the biggest loony house on line, there's food for thought - I hope you and others do not take exception, but you have to admit this hobby does something to the brain cells and specsavers have made a mint out of me. Anyway take care Sarah ttfn Linda

You just pray it is the correct people don't you? Let me know how it all goes. Kind Regards Sarah.X P.S. What do you mean nutty!!!! Lol!

Hello Sarah and Victoria Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only nutty researcher feeling like I'm going round a maze in the dark. I think this calls for perscribed medication - no I think a glass of wine or two or maybe three is called for. I have ordered the birth cert of Peter McGregor Campbell so I'm now waiting with baited breath - or will it be another mine bender. The only obvious clue is that the Chantler's were all Pianoforte Maker and low and behold there is a bunch of Campbell's with the same profession living in the same street. Anyway straight jackets at the ready, valium to my left wine to my right and at some stage the brickwall behind me. Thanks for reasuring me that I am not alone. ttfn Linda

You are definitely not bonkers, though you may get that way eventually!! haha I too have something similar I can't find my gggrandfather Frederick William Hembling born 1857 on the indexes, on baptisms etc. (can find him on census and death though) But I did spot on the indexes for the sort of correct time a William Hembling which i think I will just have to send for that certficate and hope for the best! Were you able to find on the indexes Peter? if so id try that certificate! I have a lovely bunch of ancestors who all seem to use their middle names!! (which of course I dont always know their middle names!) Good luck

No, you are not going bonkers I am!!! Lol!! I have a similar scenario to yourself. I just thought I'd make you feel a little better that someone else is in a similar boat!!! Let's hope we make a breakthrough soon eh!! Kind Regards Sarah.

My GG Grandfather Richard Chantler was born in 1861 in St Pancras, I have never been able to find his birth cert but managed to find his Marriage cert which states his father as being Peter McGregor Chantler. In the 1881 census Richard is aged 19 living with just his mother Georgiana Hill (she remarried I presume a John Hill) Georgiana'a real full name was Georgiana Maria Campbell going by her marriage cert, she was baseborn to a Maria Rebecca Hall. Did Georgiana take her fathers surname. Anyway because I have not been able to find Richards birth cert, I tried other alternatives and low and behold I found a Peter McGregor Campbell b 1861 St Pancras - Did Richard have a complete name change from Peter McGregor Campbell to Richard Chantler - seems odd. Any suggestions? Linda
