Sarah Don't despair. Do what I do when really stuck - forget about it and start researching some other line. Then when you return to it sometimes a solution suggests itself. There have been loads of times when I've hit a brick wall with one relative and have pursued another till I meet a brick wall there, only to return to first brick wall and find someone has knocked it down for me, or else it has a big notice on it pointing me in the right direction, metaphorically speaking. Having a cup of tea helps.

Hi Helen Thanks for replying. Yes, I think I have flogged the name to death. It's quite depressing really. I don't know what to do next, to be honest. Regards Sarah.

Possibly the whole of the rest of the family are still alive and somewhere on solid ground, but not as Mason. M might be misread as W for example. Have you tried looking for them by first name[s] only with birth place and date?

Hi all!! I am at my wits end on this one. Max has kindly been trying to find my Mason family, but we seem to have hit the proverbial brickwall...with full force!! They are on the 1881 census. The father is a 'Master Mariner', and they live around the Greenwich/Woolwich areas of London. However, on the 1891 census they have disappeared, apart from the eldest son, who is married with children. My great grandmother must have been around because she married in the August of 1891. I don't want to bother anyone with names, but is is possible in those days, the whole family could have gone off on a 'jolly' on their father's ship?? - or not really......??? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Regards Sarah.
