2 entries in 1881 census for same family?

Unless you have very unusual surname, it might be two different families. I have 3 families on 1881 census with right names, ages and professions for gt gt grandfather and children's names correct. Only recently have I found which one is genuinely mine. There are a lot of Charles Williams, Ann williams and William Williams all living in close proximity in Glos villages. Are dates of birth correct for all people listed?

Could it be that dad was on duty at Barracks and gave details for whole family, meanwhile mum at home in Hope Villas did the same? Doesn't explain missing children though, unless they show up on yet another houshold visiting grandma perhaps.

I have this too. Different addresses, same names and ages except for one has daughter named Eliza and the other has son Elijah (these two were same age so I think its a transcription error). Do you think they moved house on census day? Heather

LDS site shows 2 entries for my grandfather's family in the 1881 census. They do not give exactly the same info. One shows more children but both give same names for same children. Both show them in Alverstoke, Hamps but one says 'New Barracks' and the other '2 Hope Villas', one gives wife's name as Maria Letitia the other as Marion. WHY???
