Download.trojan is not a virus transmitted by emails. It can be "caught" purely by accessing a web site.

I downloaded the Netsky clean up and scan tool yesterday and it came up that I was free of the virus but this morning I had an e mail warning me that I had the Netsky 32 virus and had sent an e mail to an address I certainly didn't recognise and that the e mail had been stopped. Does this mean that there is a virus there or not ? Mary

I downloaded the removal tool. but the version of the virus wasn't covered by it. I had Netsky.O, Netsky.D and Netsky.Gen@mm. removal tool couldn't find any trace of it althought AVG (Free antivirus software) found nearly 400 traces of it! But couldn't remove it. Norton seems to have done the trick though, touch wood. no reports of it for a while now.

I'll do that. I'm updated regularly on everything else. Thanks. Mary

If you go to www(.) symantec(.)com you can download a Netsky removal tool. This is for ALL versions of the virus. It will tell you whether you have got one of the versions of Netsky and also will remove it. If you haven't got any antivirus software it is worth considering, and if you have got one, make sure it is updated frequently, daily preferably.

How would I know if I had been infected and how do you get rid of it ? Its a worry. I never open attachments unless I'm expecting them and if I send any I always send an e mail first to say an attachment is on its way and what its about. Mary

My computer has been infected by the netsky virus, problem is there is so many different varients. I have no idea how I got it because I never open attachments unless i know who has sent it. Think I've got it sorted out now though. Just what sort of perverse pleasure do these people get out writing a virus?

I know - I've been trying 'personalise' the subject I type in so the person I'm e mailing knows its from me and no-one else. Its a problem for everyone it seems. Mary

The netsky virus not only harvests names from address books to send the virus to, but also harvests names from the address book to send from. In other words although your own machine may be perfectly clean someone somewhere could get an email supposedly from you containing the virus. You would NOT have sent it, or known anything about it. Just had an e mail intercepted and stoppedas it was a Netsky - senders name karin.theiss@ross. If anyone has one of these delete it straight away. Why do these people do this sort of thing - why don't they get a life. Mary Brooke
