When I was looking for my uncle & aunt's birth certificates, I spent ages searching for Richard before my mum told me Uncle Dick's name was Walter! What makes matters worse is that I'd already asked her to tell me anything of relevance! |

Half of my ancestors used their middle names as first names! which is a wee bit frustrating as you can imagine, but I also have an Annie who was known as Nancy, an Effie who was an Elizabeth, at least i'm a Victoria known as Vikki! I'll be easy to find oneday!! haha |

Many of Hubbies rellies were only known by their nicknames, no-one can remember what their 'real' names were. However as so many of them had the same name i'm not surprised they had to think up something else to distinguish one from the other. Sue |

Does anyone know whether someone could be known as Ann when they were christened Jane? Like in Sarah Ann... being really Sarah Jane??? OR weren't those two names linked in any way.... just wondered if Ann could be a derivative of Jane in those days (1800s) but - like I say - I am clutching at straws here! Happy searching Tyne |
