Hi Cheryl I'd get the birth certificates for your grandparents and then look for their parents on the 1901 census. I'd also try the local Family History Societies to see if someone is searching the same name. The IGI and 1881 census on the LDS site. Registering with Genecircles may be helpful. The list of useful websites on the Tips page has proved an invaluable help to me. I've been at this for 7 months and have discovered a whole new hobby and interest in history. Good luck with your search. Debbie

Cheryl, Tell them his name and when he died and they will look it up on the computer. If he is buried there they will tell you the plot number and whether it's a public grave or private plot. If private, there will be a headstone. If you are successful, I can visit it for you as I work about 10 minutes' drive from there. Janice

If George died in Lewisham he is possibly buried at Hither Green Cemetery. You could phone them and ask - the office staff are very helpful there. If he is you could see if there's a headstone with some more info on it. (Are you in the area?) Telephone number is 020 8698 4955. Janice

You need to get George's birth cert. This will give you his parents then look on the 1901 census for him.

Hi Cheryl, You could go through the birth indexes (at a main library or record office) and see if your birth mother has any brothers or sisters. You'll be able to pick them out as mother's maiden name is indexed there too. This will give you some aunts/uncles. Then if you check those names for marriages and children you'll know if you have any cousins out there. Happy hunting, Janice
