Obtaining Certificates

Hi! http://www.statistics(.)gov(.)uk/nsbase/registration/certificates.asp this link will give you further information. Unfortunately with being overseas you won't be able to use the online ordering service at this time but this link will give you details of the options available. I personally use FreeBMD, Ancestry and 1837online to locate the event and find the GRO reference number. The advantage of ordering certificates from GRO is that they photocopy the original entry so you aren't relying on someone transcribing someones bad hand writing onto a certificate and getting the names or locations wrong. If you write the relevant registry office with details of the certificate required and a cheque for £7 you will also be able to obtain the certificate. You do though need to include a stamped addressed envelope. Hope this helps. Sam

Hi folks I have now got to the stage in my research where I need to obtain certificates (West Riding Yorkshire, London (around teh east end), Chelsea and Staffordshire). Can anyone give me any tips. Much appreciated. I am in Australia JIA
