According to BBC today the Government are proposing a change in the rules to make it easier for birth parents to get in touch with their adopted children. It will still necessitate agreement with both parties.

There are probably plenty of cases where a child has not been told that they are adopted. To suddenly have a third party come up with that information could be very dispuptive. I can see fewer problems the other way round as the mother knows she had a child, although she might not have told her present partner.

Will this make it any easier for me to find out the birth parents of my first husband ? He died in 1974 so obviously isn't around to try and find them himself but both my two sons would like to know, as would I, who his parents were. It leaves such a void not knowing. Both his adopted parents died many years ago so I'm lost on this one. All I have is his adoption certificate and the fact that his birth family did actually live in the same town as his adopted parents.Thats all he found out before he died. I don't want to upset anyone's lives, just to know the names would fill a gap. Mary Brooke
