David Report 8 Apr 2004 01:08

I am struggling with my mothers side and have currently hit a dead end, can anyone help please? They were a Scots family and I have traced them back to the Kilmarnock area. I have the marriage cert for my gggrandfather James MEIKLE (b.1822/3) who married Agnes BOYD (b.1826) in 1848. They had 5 children between 1849 and 1857. I can find them on the 1851 census for Ayrshire, but not on the 1841 or 1861 onwards. I suspect that as they were ag labourers they may have emigrated or migrated to another part of Scotland, but I have no idea how to proceed and where to start looking. Family rumour would suggest Canada or South Africa (my grandfather obviously returning probably via Bristol in the early 1900's). Any help gratefully received ! P.S. Have tried the LDS site, but nothing seems to tie up.
