Downloads from the LDS site

If you download the record(s) they are held as a GEDfile. You can them import them into your tree and link them - I've done it many times, when I already have the name on my tree and find another record for the same person on the LDS site (eg christening and marriage). It will also download any parents listed in the case of christening records. You can then merge duplicates. Alternatively, you can import them into a new tree while you investigate their relevance to your family. It is worth downloading them so you have the record (it also keeps the details of where it came from) to save you searching again later..

The download can be used to place the person in your tree. However beware, if the reference number at the bottom begins with a letter eg C then it is fairly reliable and has probably been taken from parish records but double check in case of transcrition errors. I have found one person born in Disneyland, England, and no it was nor Mickey. Should it be just a number then it is prob. from the ancestry file and should be taken with a huge pinch of salt, as it has been 'made up' to fit in with someone's tree.

On the Lds site there is a reord that could be one of my ancestors. the site allows you to select records for downloading. what do you get when you do this? also there is no sourse information on it so how can i find out who put it on there so i can try and find out where they got it from?
