One of my friends was in a Nazareth Lodge home in Ireland. To access information for him I had to get him a social worker who had to get him a social worker in Ireland ,who contacted the Catholic Care Society who had access to the records. He only got info after he paid quite a bit of money to them, even then it was quite limited and he's had to go on an 18 month waiting list to find out info about his mother. He was very badly treated in the home .I think it's shocking that he can't get access to his own life in the orphanage. |

I did get a response in the end but all they could or would give me was the brief info in the admission register. Is there anyone around who had an ancestor in the Middlesbrough home in 1901? or in the Middlesbrough Union Childrens Home in 1901? If so I would like to hear from you George |

My mother had the misfortune to grow up in a Nazareth House. I have to say they have been marvellous with providing the records they had available for the family. The records office is at: Nazareth House Hammersmith Road London W6 8DB Tel. 020 8748 3549 Fax. 020 8741 4287. The contact I had was Sister Matthew who was very kind and helpful. |

George, my mother was at a Nazareth home in Plymouth and we've recently been able to access her records. The home is no longer there but a Diocese related charity called Families for Children in the local area was holding all the homes records. I heard of them by contacting the local council's adoption dept and asking about the orphanage, they suggested contacting Families for Children. Very little was available but we have now got information that has started us on a search for my mothers relatives. |

Hi George, A couple of years ago the Nazareth House orphanages had a really bad press up here in Scotland. Particularly Glasgow and Aberdeen. They were taken to court, the nuns, about the abuse of children in their care, so perhaps this has something to do with them not being too keen to make their records accessible?? |

Has any other GC member had relatives or ancestors who were in one of Nazareth house orphanages run by Sisters of Nazareth? If so how much luck have you had with records and research? George |
