I find it a good site and it is free to register. The worldconnect part is a good place to add your family tree and search for connections. The mailing lists are excellent also.

I recently found a relative from America from looking on the message board on Rootsweb. It gave an e mail address to reply to as well as posting a reply on the board. I'd never have found this relative without it so I'd recommend it. And it was all free ! Mary Brooke

I use rootsweb a great deal. Be always aware that the worldconnect section is just individual people putting up their own information as best they have it. It contains a lot of errors; a lot of lines drawn that don't have any real justification; a lot of speculative ideas. But that doesn't diminish its value one whit! I too have found relatives through contacting people who put up their family trees on rootsweb and I recognized our relatedness and e-mailed the creators and found new cousins. One of my most treasured ones is a lady whose mother had died very young; the cousin had subsequently been raised by her mother's parents who were already along in age, and who themselves died before the cousin reached a true majority. When I contacted her and identified myself and my relationship to her, I was able within a few days to change her family outlook from [orphan who has only a handful of first cousins in this world] to [member of the Watts family with at least 500 measurable cousins living]. (and we're still working on that 500 -- I suspect if we ever get the total filled out, it will be closer to 1000) Yes; my recommendation is use rootsweb. Be aware of the fact that it has warts; but that's part of its charm -duane watts
