Marie 1837 does not cover Dublin, or any of Ireland for that matter. Irish records are separate from England and Wales. If you speak to your local LDS, they should be able to obtain the relevant film of the Irish BMD for the year/s you are looking for. Paul

All good tips already. Don't forget to be REALLY flexible with spellings. Imagine a registrar with very poor writing and try alternative spelling of any names in an index.

It partly depends on when your grand-parents were born. If they were born pre 1901 (like mine) the census sites are a good starting point. As previously pointed out to get their parents names it is a good idea to get their birth certificates. As well as 1837 site if they are pre 1901, you may get lucky with FreeBMD. If however your grand-parents are much younger than that, it will have to be certificates. I take it your parents have given as much information as they can remember about THEIR grandparents. Once your can get back to around 1881 the FHS site comes into its own, not only with the census but also with all the birth marriage and death records of course. This site is not 100% acurate but is certainly a very good indication for later checking with parish records. Janet

Try and locate a marriage certificate for them, try www(.)1837online(.)com, it will cost you £5 for 55 searches. Or talk to friens/family etc that might be able to give you any further names, places etc. Good luck.
