Many thanks Mary, Gwyneth for your suggestions. Its so nice to get a response. Am too ancient to trek up from the South coast to Lancs. to check the parish records. Will investigate the genuki site in more depth also the LDS,have never tried the library section, but will investigate further. Kind regards. Marjorie.

The LDS site will give you a good start but there's not always the same detail as the actual parish records, which record for example whether the people are widows or spinsters etc. and sometimes which other parish they are from. On the actual records, the witness' names are often useful guides to know that you have the right family... Good luck.

First look in GENUKI and search the area you are interested in to see if there are any on line records. Search the Church of the Latter Day Saints site and click on Library. Then click on Family History centres at the top. Search for the nearest one to you. Then search their catalogue to see what holdings they have for the area you are looking for and print these out. You can then ring your nearest centre to arrange a visit. You can order films from them to view. These only take a couple of weeks to arrive. Only cost £3 70 to view for 3mths. Best of Luck Mary

I was interested in the parish record printouts. Is it possible to search these on line? Im trying to trace a marriage pre 1837 registration in Salford /manchester area. Any tips on where to look would be more than welcome. Marjorie.
