Christina: A .ged file is a formatted file that any family tree program can open and read. After you enter information into your tree program, in order to send it or share with others who are not using the particular program you are using, you have to take your information and turn it into a .ged file. If you check under all the headings at the top of your screen, when your tree program is open, under one of those headings should be the option to EXPORT GEDCOM....placement of this options varies from tree program to tree program so you will have to check each heading on your screen as I'm not familiar with the program you are using. After you click on EXPORT GEDCOM a box will appear....use the BROWSE button on this screen to scroll and find your family tree and double click on your family tree. This will place the family tree in the empty field of the box that appeared and you simply click on EXPORT. This will then save your information into a .ged formatted file that you can then upload to sites, like GC, or send to others via e-mail. Judy

I had problems initially with the XP upgrade for Generations with the missing data syndrome. TWR Computing do provide a guide to solving this problem; just ask for it. The wiping of data tends to be a conflict with certain drivers and neither a problem with Windows XP nor Generations. In my case it was a games driver used by Microsoft Age of Empires. By switching off that particular driver in the start-up options for the PC, and not playing games prior to using Generations, means that I have no problems using Generations. (If I have been playing games then I will reboot my PC before using Generations).

I have generations and XP, I have no trouble providing I press save every time. If I alter anything I press enter on the whole lot then save, solves the problem of a blank. One thing however, when I sent my tree to a site they told me it was not a gedcom format. Anyone know what format it is?

Generations was superior to FTM as it would do much more, but, FTM could not have that so they bought it and brought out version 11, I don't know what that's like, but I fell out with FTM after them trying to sell me C D's with info on that I had put on a free site of theirs.

Hi I have generations 8 and it has been a problem since I got new putor and it is XP.Didn't know that you could just get an upgrade, where can you get it? It deletes any name I have when updating the info I have on that person and will not let me amend dates have to do them as a fresh date....suppose that means need to get the upgrade when I can find it.
