After months of resigning myself to the fact that my 3 x Great Grandfather was not registered for birth in 1837 I have found him on 1837 online. It looks like that they have been typing up the pages from the original handwritten ones. So know i have another birth certificate coming thru.

Some of the original handwritten indexes were re-typed. Unfortunately this introduced more errors! Worse still, the originals were destroyed ! So if you find typed indexes where you would expect handwritten, you have some of these. Bob

I understand that there may be still transcription errors but with the name Edward Foakes Norton i am pretty sure he's mine, you dont get many to the pound. but i still can't find him on the 1841 census, he is not at home with his parents and they live in a small village.
