Thanks everyone, I'll have a look and see what I think I need. Cheers Naomi

If you are in one or two counties definitely worth the investment. I am always looking up 1841/1851/1881 Census and waiting for 1861 and as you add new people to your tree in the same county you want to find out what happened to them. I buy mine through the family history society of my interest as they are indexed. I also use the booklets from the FHS. Belonging to a FHS of your county interest brings you the benefits of indexes and reasonably priced booklets for the villages you are interested in includes many other benefitrs as well. Janet

I haven't invested yet, but am on the verge of getting census CD's for a couple of counties - the problem being that I have people in about 5 or 6 counties so far (although predominantly in 2).

for my area I've got 1841 as unindexed images on disk, and 1851 as printed index booklets from the FHS. The indexes are far more useful

I would recommend it if you have a lot of family members in the same county.I am always going back to mine, once i find a new relative i look for them straight away in the census.I would recommend looking at Archive CD Books (http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/) They have top quality census disks and the images magnifie to a very large scale. And it is really great to have the actual image to keep in your family history file. Steve.

If most of your research is in a particular area the it's worth buying some.

Hi All, I'm starting to feel a little guilty about the amount of look-ups I ask for on the records office board. I can't always manage to get to the FRC and was wondering whether it's worth my investing in some census disks. Naomi
