Does anyone know what name 'Hy' is short for?

Hello! I have come across the name 'Hy' in my family tree, it is given as his first name, but i have no idea what it is short for...any ideas??? Also Chas...is that short for Charlie Thanks for any help offered! Kindest Regards, Sarah

Hiya I think you'll find it's short for Henry Caroline

Hy is short for Henry and Chas is short for Charles. Jeanette:-)

only a written abbreviation though, like Wm or Elizth. Doesn't mean people actually called him Hy

He'd get pretty sick of it if they did, anytime someone said "Hi" he'd think they were talking to him ;-)

he he! I think you may have a point there...when I wrote me first message, i was very consious of not starting with 'Hi'!!! Im starting to wish I had done now... thanks everyone for your help!

Hy an be short for either Henry of Harry, that is what i have found doing my family tree.
