Lillian, I have asked this question of friends and the answer always came back 'I don't know about Outlook Express!!' My BT Yahoo account lets me do that but not the Outlook one. Thank you for that info Anne, am off to change it now. Done it. Hurrah!! There are some wonderful people on this site. Margaret |

Yes, Anne, you've hit the nail on the head! I've followed your instructions and much happier now that my e-mails aren't automatically opened. Many thanks, Lilian |

I wonder if Lilian means that just one click will open the email in the preview box? Is that right Lilian? You can disable the preview box like this:- To prevent messages opening in the preview pane go to View>Layout and untick the box towards the bottom where it says 'show preview pane' Hope this helps, I battled with it for weeks and no one knew what I was talking about!! Lilian, No you are not doing anything wrong, as that is the only way you can put the msg into delete, but you are not really opening it, you are just highlighting it, if you understand me. You can always go on 'tools' and add words into your 'message rules' and that will automatically put 'certain' emails directly into delete file, or block sender, but they are getting sooo clever at disguising words that you could spend all day inserting various abbreviations and spellings of 'viagra'! Hope this helps Kim |

Hi Kim, Thanks for your reply. Don't wish to appear thick but when I click on the message once, it automatically opens. Am I doing something I shouldn't? Lilian |

Lillian, When you click on a msg to select delete you are not actually opening it, it is only when you double click, so it is safe just to click once and put it in your delete box. Kim |

Is there any way I can delete e-mails from my Inbox without opening them? I have Outlook Express on Windows 98. Thanks, Lilian |
