Copied and pasted from a reply I received recently General Registry Oik-Recortyssee Head of Registries J. Brown Contact: Mrs S Cain- Registrar INFORMATION ABOUT CERTIFICATES. A. GENERAL (a) Statutory records held in this office relate solely to births marriages and deaths registered in the Isle of Man since 1878, records of Church of England baptisms, marriages and burials prior to 1878 are held. (b) No information can be given from the register except in the form of a certificate. (c) A certificate can be issued only from an entry in an official register or record, and the only particulars that can be inserted in the certificate are such as appear in the entry from which it is compiled. (d) If the exact date of an event is not know a search can be undertaken on your behalf. The search fee is £3.00 for every year searched. You must stipulate which years you wish staff to search and pay for those years. All of those years will be searched even if a match is found in the first year looked at. B TYPES OF BIRTH CERTIFICATES. (a) SHORT CERTIFICATE - Short certificates show only the name, surname, sex, date of birth and (in most cases) place of birth. (b) FULL CERTIFICATE - This is a full copy of the birth entry, and includes particulars of parentage and registration. (c) ADOPTION CERTIFICATES - Certificates of both the above types are issued in respect of persons who have been adopted under the Adoption Acts. In such cases, the full certificate is a copy of the entry in the Adopted Children Register, which instead of particulars of parentage and birth registration, gives the date of birth and particulars of the adoption and the adoptive parent or parents; a short birth certificate bears no reference to adoption. C. BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATES These relate to baptisms in the Church of England prior to 1878 and the copy is a full copy of the baptismal entry of the Parish Register. D.
