Cambridge are brilliant, always get them back within 48 hours of posting, and they have CAMDEX online for you to search for the reference. |

Simon Yes it was a handwritten copy which is disappointing but at this moment I am pleased that I can carry on with this line of the family rather than wait another week or so. Shirley |

It was a revelation to me when I started ordering certificates from the local Register Office rather than Liverpool. They nearly always come within a week, and often within a couple of days. The only thing is (which could be a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it) the offices I deal with tend to send out newly handwritten certificates rather than copies of the original. They also tend, for marriage certs for example, to need a bit more detail such as the parish where the event happened rather than just the district - that's usually no problem though as you can usually give them the villages where the bride and groom were born and they'll take it from there. I definitely think people should be encouraged to use local offices more, and just use Liverpool when a search is required - that should at least relieve some of the pressues on the GRO. Simon |

I always send off for birth and marriage certificates online to the GRO. The wait has been getting longer and longer.(and I am very impatient) Sunday morning I sent off to the Cambridge County Council for a birth certicate. This morning I received it back by return post. I thought I had not signed the cheque or made some mistake. But no. There was the birth certificate. Well done Cambridge Council for an excellent service. |
