My gg grandfather is causing me a bit of a problem. He appears to have had 2 fathers! On the parish record for his christening his father is stated as William, but on the record for his marriage his father is George. I did think there may have been 2 different William Aylmers (my gg grandfather), but with a middle name like Witteridge I find it a bit hard to believe. Also if there were 2, I can find no trace of the other one. My brain is slowly frying trying to figure it out, I`m hoping the answer will be obvious to someone seeing this for the first time! Maybe just wishful thinking :-) what do you think? Rebecca |

Perhaps he knew his father as George, it could be a middle name or there could be a reason for the change, it may have occured after his sons birth. Try to find an entry for the father's birth or purchase the sons birth certificate. I had the same problem with my Robert Tucker, who after years searching turned out to be Harry James Tucker. So anything is possible. |

Thanks Christina, I can`t get a birth cert. as he was born before 1837 (aaarrrggghhh!). I am beginning to think its another case of my family and their habit of changing their names on official documents! I spent ages looking for a Jane once, only to find her masquerading as Dorothy! By the way, I saw your Tucker queries, gladto see you finally found him! Rebecca |
