Strange death date?

Well I think actually the 1873 ref isn't his. I've found what I think is his marriage ref in 1841 and if the 1873 was him it listed him as age 44 at death. This would make him only 12 when he got married! So perhaps the name isn't as rare as I first thought. The problem is as he could have died anytime between 1847 (date of his child's birth) and 1869 it is not really something I could look up on 1837. Any other ideas of how I could find out? Lorraine

I know of someone a genereation or so ago who put down deceased for a parent - and the parent didnt die until several years later - the reason was cos they wanted nothing to do with the parent

Does the death reg show the age at death? If the age at death ties in with the other details you have for him, I'd say it's the same man. The only way to tell for certain is to order the death cert, see who registered the death and try and tie it in that way. Have you looked on all the death indexes or just BMD? BMD isn't complete and so this may be why you can't find it. Rachel

Perhaps the family assumed he had died because they hadn't seen him for a while....... Or perhaps their were two cousins with the same names and the first death was not registered by anyone? KIM

I have a bit of a mystery. On a marriage cert dated 1869, my ancesters father is entered as (dec) which I take to mean deceased. However, the only death ref for what I think to be him is in 1873, which is 4 years later. His name was William Habblett and he was born and lived in Bermondsey (st. Olave). As it is not a very common name I'm pretty sure the death ref is his. Any ideas? Lorraine
