Just checked it out and it's fascinating. There's so much information, I'm sure the site will really help some people. So sad though to see how many young children died of measles, scarlet fever, small pox etc. And I was amazed how many died from 'teething', my two grizzled a bit but it never got life threatening!

Cheers Jacqui, I'll certainly have a look. P.S. I can see the Bassetts factory in the distance from my kitchen window.

Just stumbled across the wonderful site for the General Cemetery, Sheffield (now closed). The information contained on the site is amazing - wish all cemeteries were as well documented and on line. There were 87,000 burials in the cemetery and each one of them is well documented and recorded. The first 6000 are available on line and give name, date of death, date of burial, place of residence, status/occupation. Also info. on the plot owners. Rest to follow when transcribed. Some of the memorials on the graves are amazing, and some interesting people are buried there - e.g. Bertie Bassett's founder - of All Sorts fame! If you are researching Sheffield in the early 1800's onwards try this site www(.)gencem(.)org Jacqui
