i HAVE TRIED EXPORTING MY TREE FROM PAF ,BUT IT SAVES IT AS AN A&L GRAPHIC FILE EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS GEDCOM fILE INTHE "SAVE AS TYPE "BOX . PLEASE HELP AS GETTING FRUSTRATED. I HAVE SEARCHED FOR A&L GRAPHICS ON MY COMPUTER BELEIVING IT TO BE A PROGRAM BUT THE SEARCH COMES UP FILE NOT FOUND OR CANNOT ENTER THIS "TYPE IN EXECUTABLE" INSTEAD. I have tried the help of Paf and on the lds website but am no further forward and getting fed up KIM

I uploaded my tree the other day from PAF. I saved it as type "Other gedcom 5.5" and selected character set ANSI. Took about 30 seconds and is fine. Jill

Hi Kim, I haven't heard of A&L, but it sounds as if the file extension .ged is associated with a different program on you computer. If you run Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and choose Tools, Folder Options from the menu, there's a File Types tab which shows you which program certain file types are associated with. Scroll down to the entry for GED - it should be associated with PAF. If not, change it to PAF and this should cure your problem. Rick.

Well it worked and I have exported my tree . Thankyou Rick would never have known that. Disappointted though that Ancestry matched my name to 15 trees, but none of the names are anything like Dale, they matched me to Dahl, Dill, Dial and Diehl all in America, bit of an nonsense really! Still I'm glad I know how it works now beginning to think it was just me going loopy. nuff said KIM
