2 Maiden Names ????

Thanks for the replies so far. Just been looking at this one record further......the type written entry says Murphy or Frost and then there is a hand written amendment at the bottom of the column that just states Murphy

I'd have to agree with Cass on this one - it's how I discovered that my nan had been married previously

Hi William, I think it's because the mother gave both her maiden name and her previously married name, though of course I could be wrong. Carole

It could be that one was an "assumed name". For instance my mother's maiden name was Swain, but she was raised by her aunt so for a long time assumed her surname Atkins. However on her marriage certificate it just said Swain, so I don't really know.

You know when you look up a birth record and it gives the mothers maiden name.......why does it sometimes have 2 names for example a record I am looking at the babies name is given as Jacqueline B Murphy and in the maiden name column it says Murphy or Frost. Thanks a lot Billy
