Anyone is welcome to view my tree, BUT there is only info on two living persons in it. Your siblings, cousins etc might object very strongly to strangers finding out about them, so if you download your entire family tree onto the site, make sure that you either exclude all living relatives, or have their explicit permission to pass details on. As far as I can see it is now even more difficult to navigate someone else's tree as they have removed the "view relations" option. The only way sometimes to find the link you want in very large trees. Janet

I have no problems with people viewing my tree. However the GC format for displaying trees is a bit cumbersome. Large trees are difficult and time consuming to navigate through. I thought that they might have looked into this for the relaunch!

No-one except yourself can amend your tree, only view it.

I have given access to my tree and in return been given access to the trees of several people, some who are definitely related, a couple of possibles and one who was just starting out and was interested in seeing a more complex tree. There is no way of editing someone else's tree, if I view the other trees I just get the option of viewing details not editing or deleting. Judith

I hope this is not the case as it goes against openess, knowledge sharing and co-operation which I had hoped we are all for??? Please tell me it isnt true Pat

Can they do that? I thought only you could make changes to your tree. Margaret

I have no problem with somebody using the information from my tree. But is it true that if you allow somebody to view your tree they can then amend it without your knowledge?

Thanks to you both for that. I'm not against sharing either, so I think I'll offer to let people look because I'm sick of typing out what possible connections there might be. Thanks again!

I'm the same as Paul - if anyone wants a look they're welcome to. But i always offer as a matter of course - the other person may be able to spot a more obvious connection than I can. I'm in no way precious about my research being "stolen". Giving people everything I have may free them up to get one with other research which might benefit me later on

As far as I'm concerned, anyone that wants to view my tree only has to ask. But then I'm friendly and helpful, and not everyone is lol

Can anyone tell me what the general thought is with regard to asking to view somebody else's tree, or offering to show your own? I've made a few contacts through the site, and others have contacted me, but no offers or requests have been made in either direction. Is it politically incorrect to ask for a look? Thanks, Miriam
