When did the system of Registration start in Scotland? Was it the same as England and Wales? Paul

Scotland starts in 1855. the snags are due to data protection, no births after 1903, marriages 1926 and deaths 1955. Pat. The good news is you can see parish records back to the 1500's and download the certs. This site is Scotlands people. Pat

You can also access 1881, 1891 & 1901 census on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. The Discussion Forum on Scotlands People may be of assistance too. If you want to research after the online-accessible dates for bdm it has to be in person at the General Register Office for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh EH1 3YT Scotland You can search in person, including records and additional indexes such as marine births & deaths, aircraft births & deaths, Service Department Registers, Army chaplain registers, register of births, deaths and marriages in foreign countries, and foreign marriages. Early census records are held in some local libraries, with a country-wide collection at Edinburgh's Scottish Library http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/libraries/scottish/scottish.html and at the Scottish Genealogy Society's library in Edinburgh http://www.scotsgenealogy(.)com/ K.
