Is there an official list of people who changed their name assuming that they did it officially? I think that my dad was born Alfred Caudle and by the time he married my mother (possibly his second marriage) he was Frederick Caldwell. A propos , is there a public record of divorces?

hi Eric. Not sure about change of name records, but i think there is a record of divorces held in London you may be best to go onto the records board for more information on this. Regards Sheila

Hi Eric, I was only just reading about this subject the other day. The PRO has a page about name changing etc. pro.gov.uk/pathways/FamilyHistory/gallery5/name.htm Hope that helps to clarify things a little for you. Best wishes, Carole

Thank you Sheila and Carole. I shall pursue both leads trying to track down the evasive fellow. He died when I was 1 and I shall be 64 shortly so it has been a cold trail for a long time. I have so far been unable to confirm this name change. This might help. Eric
