As a possible side ways look at my adoption problem, is there anyway i can trace a birth certificate for someone where i am 100% sure of fathers name and date of birth, but not sure if they had a different surname at birth? Or at least narrow down some possibles? As going through the GRO i can find no names to match for 3 years either side of a date of birth. Yvette

Hi, Are you looking for the surname of the child, if the parents were not married it would be under her mother mothers maiden name, and you will not find it registered under the fathers name even if they married a couple of years later a birth can only be recorded once however it can be cross refernced with another certificate e.g. adoption certificate. Hope this helps Sheila
