Rebecca While you are there you could try looking at the Electrol roll Books. Some may have been at home after War, not all could afford to marry young so remained at home. (sounds like we are going backwards at the moment my children are still at home). Women didn't get the vote until 1928, before that women over a certain age (I think around 50). Irene

Hi Rebecca, Sorry, I was a bit slow and you answered my question before I'd asked it! hope you find her death after the mother's maiden name appears and that they had at least one child after then for you to focus on. Best wishes, Carole

Hi Rebecca, Have you found her death indexed? If you know when she died you can work back from that date to when they married and look for children born in that area, between those dates. It would at least narrow down your search. The birth indexes after 1911 show the mother's maiden name. If you are going to apply for birth certificates, do it through the local register office and state you don't want them unless the parents' names are correct. Local offices don't take a checking fee like the ONS does, so you won't lose any money. Best wishes, Carole

Try the Parish Registers. But, usually I have found that after 1900 they are still at the church. The local county record office will be able to tell you. (local to the event). If they are still at the church, then give the vicar a ring and ask to view them, hopefully you aren't too far away. Some charge a set fee, some ask for a donation to church funds. I always try to view the parish registers as near to the present day as allowed, saves a fortune on certs and is a way of grouping together families. IGI wont be any use in this instance as the dates are too recent.

I suppose if i start at the beginning this may make sense. My husbands grandfather Nathan Rous was married previously to a Emily Julia gibbs in 1903, something we have only recently found out!!! His second marriage was in 1918. We are unaware of any children from his first marriage, is the only route available for me to check any possible children of this marriage, to order birth certificates and check the parents names on these.. Hopefully there is another way or this will cost me a fortune... Please any help out there!! Thank you....Rebecca Rous
