Yes names and occupations often changed, maybe he was William john Hickey or William known as John etc. Sometimes if father had same name as son they were known by middle nmaes. Confusing for us but then I don't suppose they were thinking about genealogy when they did it. I have a relative who started out as a language professor andthen was a coal porter a boarding house owner but on his death cert is said professor of language! KIM

Ok where to start..... I have my Gt Grandad on the 1901 census it is definatly him although his age is somewhat out I have his marriage certificate Charles Parker married Julia Hickey in 1891 (charles was a cab driver)... Fathers name is down as George Parker although in 1891 he is deceased. I have the birth certificate for Charles Parker he was born in Brentford in 1862 father george was a gardener. Mother Elizabeth Parker nee Smith.. I cant find them on any Census (expect charles on 1901) Have access to 1891, 1871 and searched 1881.....Can anyone please please check for me my tree has come to an absolute standstill now... My other problem is --- Julia Hickey I have her marriage certificate which says fathers name is William Hickey and he is a shoemaker I think I have found her in 1871 but her father is John Hickey and different occupation???? I have also found her in 1881 with a stepfather so thats not much good. Were marriage certificates often wrong?? Any one still reading this and understanding what I have wrote needs a medal...Any help/advice will be so greatly recieved....Jan
