You're computer taking "a little rest" could be caused by a number of things....usually little glitches are due to maintenance jobs that need to be done or simply fixed by restarting the computer. Listed below are the things that need to be done routinely.....if after you've done them you're still having the problem, let me know. If you need instructions on doing any of them I'll send you step by step directions. 1. Update at Microsoft Window's Updates 2. Run Adaware to remove spyware - at least once a week. 3. Empty cookies cache - at least once a week 4. Empty Temporary Internet files - once a week 5. Run Disk Clean Up - Once a month 6. Run thorough Disk Scan with automatic fix checked - once a month. 7. Defrag - once a month On occasion, sometimes internet software can suddenly get tempormental and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled, too.....AOL software is notorious for this.

Hi Judy Good to speak to you again and thanks once again for trying to help me out. As far as I know nothing was done to my hard drive. What happened was my daughter blew the power pack - along with the house electrics - so I had to have a new one fitted (power pack that is, not daughter!). My mums ex then came and reinstalled the modem drivers from the installation CD. Now this next bit is over my head but it may make sense to you. He couldn't connect to the internet how I used to do it so he clicked on a few things. In Dial Up Networking where I used to just have 'make a new connection' and the icon (hope that's the right terminology) for my ISP, I now have an extra icon which says 'connection to..' followed by the telephone number for my ISP. This icon has a tick next to it. Hope this makes sense. Jeanette

Jeanette....Glad to see you're back up and running! As part of your PC fix, was your hard drive wiped clean or did you install a new one? Judy

Hi Jason Thanks for that. Please excuse me as I am a bit of a computer/internet dinasaur. lol I followed Judys tips and deleted my temporary internet files and cookies yesterday but things haven't improved. I'll ring my ISP as you suggested. Cheers! Jeanette

The little world thing is just a graphic and doesn't mean anything. If you click on the internect connection icon (usually a picture of two tiny computers with blue and black flashing screens!) on the bottom right of the browser you will see some numbers updating. This is how much data is being transfered in and out of your PC down the line. If these numbers are static, then this would indicate that nothing is being transfered and hence the 'sleep'! Its always good to keep the buffers clear (as Judy often suggests) by clicking Tools, Internet Options, and Delete Files. The more space the PC has to write thing, the faster it will work. However, it does sound like an ISP problem to me. Give them a ring. Jason.

Hi Judy I'm back online now. Kids, eh? I love 'em but I couldn't eat a whole one! Since I got back online I've been experiencing a liitle trouble whilst on the internet. It seems evry 5 minutes or so my computer appears to be having a little rest! I can be clicking away quite happily then it decides to have a nap. The little 'world' in the top right hand corner is still going round as if searching but nothing happens for about 30 seconds or so then it decides to go. Could it be the fault of my ISP (it's nororiously useless but we don't have much choice here). My daughter doesn't seem to be having any trouble on MSN. Jeanette
