Tracy a way of keeping costs down, if you live near enough is to try your main library and ask if they have the GRO indexes. They are usually free to look at. It means trawling through them on micro fiche but are the same as 1837. Hope that helps.

I was about to say are you certain that they did get married? I have some that didn't get married till after all the children were born. Are you also certian of Marys surname? I'm not sure of that records office but the one here you can ask if, say, his Johns father was called so and so and check up on it before hand. Presuming you know his name! So annoying for you.

I sympathise - I've got a headache too trying to find the marriage of John Thomas Hearn (or Hurn,Horn, Horne ?) He was born in Bedford in 1881 and married an Annie Barnett (well thats what my Mum says) and they worked at Wadenhoe Manor in Northants, later moving to Cranford and ending their days at St. Marys in Kettering Northants. I've tried everywhere for this marriage - I need it to confirm the name of his wife and link him to my tree ! Mary Brooke

Tracey, have you tried searching for spelling variations on the surname. thos ethat spring to mind would be cootes, coutes, coats, coatts - just in case the GRO indexes have been mistranscribed. And did you look for the wedding under both surnames? Zoe
