Hi All Can you tell me what infomation you'll get from the parish registers? Gillian |

Gillian, I think it may vary from parish to parish as to how detailed information is, but registers give baptisms, marriages and deaths. This is typical of a baptism 9th July1820 Matthew Jackson, son of Matthew, a labourer, and Sarah of Peterborough. Marriages are similar but include the signatures or marks of the witnesses. I don't have any records of deaths, but I assume they give name and date and trade, as well as place. Rosemary(Essex) |

Parish registers detail burials rather than deaths, if you're unlucky you'll just get name and date of burial, probably age at death though this may be guess work. Some will give date of death, occupation, son/daughter of, widow/widower of, cause of death. One wonderful clerk had recorded details of the deceased's four(!) marriages including one at age 87. |
