Have you looked for other baptisms with the same father - does this parish regularly omit mother's name or was this a glitch in which case you could look for other baptisms with the same father - hopefully siblings. If all baptisms at this period show just the father you'll need to look at the marriage register to find the mother's name, lets hope they didn't move in to the parish between marriage and birth of child and that the name is uncommon enough for you not to find more than one couple with same husband's name. Good luck!

Hi Kim this is my North Yorks lot and it was the original Parish record for Baptism with only the entry with date and Father's name. Any ideas? Ann

Ann, Have you seen the original yet? and is it one of your Durham lot? When I contacted Durham RO they sent me a photocopy of the original Baptisum , it gave birth date, also that he was the 3rd son (which gave more headaches as I then had to find the others!) and on the second page it gave father, occupation, mother and where she came from. They only charged me £2 for this. Don't know if this will help, but........ Good Luck Kim

I have found an entry of a baptism for 1795 which doesn't give the mother's name and although the year could be right how do I know that it is the right person?? Ann,Darlington
