Adoption and birth certificates

Hi, There is no point looking for an entry fo your husband under his adopted name there will be none, only ever an entry under your birth name...on his adoption certificate, he will have two reference numbers this is to cross reference details of his adoption certificate with his birth certificate....if he need s to order a new certificate under his birth name he can qoute this number at the local registers office and they can do one for him, they did mine while i waited, Hope this information helps Regards Sheila

I think if you google "adoption certificate" the first website explains it. The second certificate is known as an adoption certificate and as such is not listed on the 1837online site. but you can still apply for it on via the family records centre. I think 1837 online only lists births/marriages/deaths but not necessarily adoptions. Sure someone else will give you advise . KIM

Please can you help me. My husband has a birth certificate for his original name, but when his mother married for the 2nd time, his step father adopted him. my husband has a birth certificate with his adopted name on it but i cant find a record for it on 1837, what am i doing wrong
