Just thought it might be worth mentioning the British Library's Newspaper Library at Colindale, London - You can search their catalogue on the British Library website for titles of newspapers that they hold, and it will tell you the dates that the papers ran from and to - this is quite useful for older titles, as some only ran for a short period of time. You would have to visit them, unless you want to pay a packet for a search!!! They have a huge collection (apparently covering a shelf distance of over 20 miles!!!!!) I went last week, and it can be very rewarding to find extra info that you probably wouldn't find elsewhere. (It's also quite amusing reading about some the things people were arrested for!!) Nina

Sarah, A while back I was looking for any reports on my great unlce who committed suicide in a public park. I rang the local newspaper from the area and explained what I was looking for and gave the very helpfull lady a date. Week or so later I received lots of photocopies of exactly the report I wanted. All it cost was the price of the phone call. I'd ring around and see if you can get anywhere that way. I found the local newspaper office very helpful and they were glad to help. Demelza

If the accident happened in Middlesex then you could access any big library in that area for this particular newspaper but the best place to go is Colindale Newspaper Library at Colindale, near the RAF museum. You can access any paper here from about 1750 onwards. Many are on fiche but not all. Janet

Sarah, Do you know where in Middlesex the accident took place? If you do then contact the local library and they may have the local newspapers on michrofiche that you can look through, or maybe even the Middlesex Chronicle, I know only of the Middlesex County Times which is now called the Ealing Gazette but I would think most of the Middlesex boroughs had their own local. Do any of you know if Records are kept of old newspapers? My Grandmother was killed in a road accident in the early 1950s. I was wondering if there would be a record of this somewhere. Regards Sarah.
