This may help you track some elusuve ancestors especially those who may have been born abroad etc. The GRO have what I call a 'micellaneous lot' of Indexes which are available for viewing at the Family Record Centre in London, but which are not usually available at County Record Offices with the 'usual' GRO Index. I have now found that these Indexes have been filmed by the LDS. The way of getting to the 'misc lot' is weird and wonderful, but in spite of trying other search words is the only one that I can find that works. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp click title search Enter ' High Commission Returns' in the search box. Index to British High Commission death returns ca 1948 - 1965 click on this title. Great Britain Civil Registration Indexes click on this title. then you get a list of all the 'miscellaneous' records as per the list at the Family Record Centre London. click on the record you want to obtain further info and the 'film details' button

Hi John This is a great tip, since my GG Grandmother was born in Naples. I have followed the steps you set out. Presumably I still need to go somewhere to look at the microfiche?
