Hi Kevin, I agree that the Mormons do a lot of good work for us, but the biggest problem I've found with using the IGI is the indexed entries from records submitted privately, which you can't access immediately to see where their source of information has come from. I always scroll down to the bottom of the page to see if the info has been submitted this way or if it's from a parish register etc. Then, if I can't find a parish register entry I look on Hugh Wallis' site [http://freepages(.)genealogy(.)rootsweb(.)com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle] to see if the register for that parish has been indexed. Between the IGI and the VRI 2nd Ed i have found 5 marriages for a Roger Norton all married on the same day 02/07/1728 to the same spouse but all in 4 different counties. 2 however are in the same county (wiltshire) that so far my family have come from and of these 2, 1 is the same parish that my family have been baptised (Hindon) in, the other is just down the road (Mere) 12kms, well to us any way probably quite a walk in those days. i know that the LDS do good work to index all these records but i think the odds that they are all different marriages are slim, but it just goes to show that you have to check all original sources.
