Jennifer, Go to this website www[.]familysearch[.]org (remove the brackets). Click on the SEARCH tab at the top of the page. Click on International Genealogical Index (IGI) which is about half way down on the left of the page. Enter your ancestors name, rough year of birth, put a +/- of say 5 years. Put your region in as British Isles (if they were born in the UK). then press search/ok (cant remember which one it is) This should bring up a list of people that match your details. Keep the details quite wide at first then try refining your search until you get a managable list of possible candidates. If you dont get a result try using names that sound similar or widening the years to search, if you still have no luck and your ancestor lived in this country put a message on here and i am sure some kind soul will have a look at the Vital Records Index UK 2nd Edition (VRI UK 2nd Ed) for you. I will if I see your message, I work nights so i am asleep alday and wont pick your message up until this evening but it only takes a few minutes to do a search. The info gained will point you in the direction of the parish registers that you need, to find your ancestors baptism and marriage entry. To find Burials you will need to search the National Burial Index (NBI) once again I am sure someone on GC will be able to help out. Good luck Kevin

Hi Jennifer, have you tried the IGI on the family search site? If no luck it might mean a visit to the local family records office for the area the person was baptised or married. I did this recently. The family records are in the same building as a big local library. Took quite a while fiddling with the micro fiche machine but eventually found a marriage and a baptism and the photocopies only cost me 30p each. What part of the country are you looking in? Best of luck

Anyone offer any advice as to where I can go to find the parents of someone born in 1826? I cant find any details using free sources. I am willing to pay to view something but no sure if there is anything to view. Cheers JP
