I'm looking to buy some software and this family tree maker is supposed to be the best. I need something straightforward and easy. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

I have been wondering whether tobuy this. At the mo I am using a PAF program from the LDS which allows you to change the files into a GEDCOM one and that it was free to download.

Hullo, guys, Re family tree maker. when you decide which to buy, be aware that FTM is US based. and when I bought FTM 6, with 15 cd's,the trouble was, apart from the actual program, (i think3cd's)the rest were relatively(NO pun) useless to me. you MIGHT be better off buying the basic program....which maybe cheaper for you.....BOB.

Hi Eileen I have version 11 of FTM, and it is an excellent programme. I bought just the software from a company called TWR Computing, who specialise in software for genealogy. Their service was excellent, and they offer telephone support as well, although I haven't used the service as yet. Good value for money so far as I'm concerned. Regards Pauline

I've tried FTM and Family Historian as well as the free ones such as PAF and Genopro. They all have their own advantages and disadvantages but I prefer FTM for daily use because you can send extracts in PDF files to friends/family who haven't got genealogy programmes. Hope this helps. Ann
