Yes that is what I meant Robin, I don't know what you mean about checking the GRO index, but these are the marriage details: Marriage on Dec 26th 1872, Brewood, Staffs. George Wright and Sarah Brockhurst and it's George Wright's father I'm confused about. Thanks if you can help somehow.

Sarah, I think Elizabeth means the entry might have been miscopied by the register office she ordered it from. Yes, they sometimes have to guess, though you wouldn't expect them to guess an unusual name in place of a common name Church marriage registers are the worst because parsons can have poorer handwriting than a proper registrar would be allowed to have Post the place and date and somebody will have a look at the GRO index -- me if I'm still here

Hi Elizabeth I am always having trouble reading the curly writing on certificates. If you are able to, scan me a copy and I will have a look at it. I'm sure there will be others willing to help as well. Regards Sarah.

I ordered a marriage certificate a while ago and the father's name was Homer Wright. At the time I thought it was a pretty unusual name for someone born about 1830, but maybe someone else has found people called Homer? Also, when I searched throught the censuses to try to find the family I couldn't find any trace of him. I did find a family with the father Thomas Wright. Is it safe to assume that Homer is really Thomas, and it was just hard to read the handwriting when they wrote out the certificate? Has anyone else had mistakes on certificates?
