I have just had two more supposedly from NTLWorld.com, it says their main e-mail server is down and tells you to reconfigure to the free auto forwarding service and entering a password to be found on the attached file. These were picked up by the free avast anti virus software but the e-mail is very plausable and will catch out the unwary. I am now getting about 6 virus e-mails a day, and just to be on the safeside i ran a virus scan of my hard drives. I use XP and have different settings for all my family. There was a virus on two of my childrens download pages. Children will press anything to get to the required page so they let the virus in. If you are running XP as well, i suggest you do a system scan too. You may be careful but what about the rest of your family.

Hi Ann, yes you are right of course - they need to be deleted too. Hubby was away and I am very careful when he's not here!! Have now deleted them and done a full scan and all is well. Then of course just came on again and got THREE more!! Why me?? I get no 'spam' and don't give out my e-mail address. Grrrrrrrr. Maz. XX

I had a naughty one today. It was a perfectly acceptable email from tesco.net. Nice letter explaining there had been a problem with servers and if I would like more info to read the attachment Sure george! I phoned tesco to inform them, but they knew already. The give away was the badly phrased title of the mail. Tesco talk proper english like wot the rest of us do! The anoying thing was that my virus checker did not catch it! Good job I was alert! Lets be careful out there!!

Thank goodness I didn't beep this morning. However, had 2 updates today and been downloading them daily. What worries me, had one of those awful Netsky bulk mails today, masked as being from a school. Guess what I do for a living!!!! That was the scariest one I've trashed and deleted. Jackie

How do we know if we've got a virus ? I've sent a couple of e mails that have been returned - may have been wrong address but one did state it was returned as I had sent an attachment and it was to prevent any virus. My friend has been e mailing me and sometimes I get them sometimes I don't. If this isn't a virus of some sort what is it ? (I'm new to all this hi tech stuff so its a bit mind boggling and scary) Mary Brooke

New variant adds to Netsky damage The sky's the limit for Netsky D with nearly 40,000 infected mails intercepted so far, according to MessageLabs. The UK security company pinpoints the first identification of the worm just before 10am yesterday morning, originating from France. And if your computer began emitting beeping sounds this morning, the chances are, you've got it too. mi2g's Intelligence Unit said its preliminary data shows NetSky.d to have already caused $58.5 million in estimated economic damage worldwide. Yet hardly have you updated your antivirus software to protect against NetSky-D when the E variant is jumping up and down for your attention. Again it is a mass mailing worm that attempts to delete antivirus software activities and other infections. However Sophos says it has not received reports of any infections from the public domain. It appears that virus writers are finding this Internet isn't big enough for all their creations. NetSky D too seeks out and removes evidence of MyDoom infections. It also edits out Registry keys used by two Bagle variants. Likewise, NetSky-C also rids computers it infects of MyDoom and previous incarnations of the NetSky virus. 'It appears that the NetSky.d author was actively coding over the weekend with a view to ensure Bagle malware variants do not take advantage of NetSky zombie computers. This turf war is a new phase in malware evolution,' said DK Matai, Executive Chairman, mi2g. This new trend gives credence to the suspicions of many antivirus companies that spammers are taking advantage of the virus writing community to create an army of zombie computers to send out spam for them. And with a financial incentive, virus writers are becoming ever more protective over their commandeered troops. NetSky-B was the second most reported infection in February according to Kaspersky. Trend Micro placed it third - MyDoom ranked top in both charts.
