Tracey.....any family tree program will open the .ged file. Try downloading one of the free family tree programs....like Genopro at www.genopro(.)com (my personal favorite free one) or the one at the LDS site at www.familysearch(.org). Remove the brackets from the website I just listed. After you download and install the family tree program, find the file you want to open and RIGHT click on the file. A drop down box will appear and choose OPEN WITH and choose the family tree program you just installed. This will open the .ged file for you. Acrobat is not capable of opening a .ged. Any questions or problems feel free to give me a shout. Judy

I have subscriptions on the Ancestry and Family Search websites, both very useful to me except when I download a gedcom file I can't open it with Acrobat which is how it is sent. For some reason I can't open .ged files. Does anyone know what that magical reason is and could they please let me know!? I live in the States so I am not able to just pop down to the PRO/FRC etc so I rely heavily on the internet and random acts of kindness of strangers. Thanks. Tracey
