If you put everyone on Tree as long as you don't actually put their present day addresses how is anybody going to see them. I only allow rellies to actually have access to my Trees. I am sure they wouldn't do anything naughty with info. I use a powerful Firewall as well. Could you please tell me if my living rellies don't object what can go wrong. I never put presently living rellies on other sites. I only search backward from my parents who are both dead and were 40 when they started having a family. As they only had daughters am researching my sisters married names back. Sandra

Hi Janet I have made mine 75 years old as folk didn't live to that age long ago however we are living longer. I also put abt for 'about 'that way I know it is a guess on my part. If I'm told by family members that they were younger I put bf for 'before 'that date, or atf for 'after.' I like to use this as a guide because when you go to do searches at least I have some sort of guide.Hope this helps. Mary

Personally, I've been adding people who were born before about 1915 on mine, without knowing for certain that they're dead. I'm not sure it's the right thing to do though - it hadn't really occured to me before that my gran's older brothers and sisters might still be alive.

Hi Janet: Make sure you have well-documented information. Once your tree gets to a certain size you may forget where you got some of your information and if you don't note where you received the information (or where you had to guess, in this case) you may eventually forget that you "created" a date of death and perhaps resume searching using an incorrect date. Good luck with your tree! :~)

Unless they have a very unusual name I think it would be OK to put an approx date of birth and just a county, not place. Or you could just use the surname and put for example 'male Smith' Anne

At what age is it ok to presume that unknown rellies are deceased? Is there an accepted age that you can start to put them on your tree if you don't know? Jan
