Hi everyone, i am puzzled!!!!!can anyone help??one of my rellies married for the 2nd time in 1887,his wife already had children,in 1881 she had Emma aged 8, Matilda aged 7, Benjamin aged 4, and Edith aged 2, in 1891 there was Matilda 19,domestic servent, Ben 15,general labourer,Edith 12, and Owen 9. Now-----on 1881 Emma is'nt mentioned, also,Matilda would have been 17 in 1891 would'nt she??(my mathes is'nt that bad!!)Emma would have been 18,would Matilda have lied about her age? also,Owen is'nt on 1881. Hi, a year or two difference between each census is not unusual. Emma may well have been working away from home at the age of 18 - or even married. Also if Owen was 9 in 1891 he wouldn't have been born at time of 1881! Try having a look on FreeBMD to narrow down their births, but don't worry too much - birthdays were not so important then and many people were unsure of their exact age. Maz. XX

Thanks Sarah, but Owen was there in 1891, but not in 1881,maybe he wa staying with relatives at the time the census was taken! thanks for your help anyway. Chris.
